My goodness, I am in awe at the beauty of this drumset. The Yamaha Limited Edition 40th Anniversary Washi Drumset(WASHI2F60) is quite possibly the most beautiful set of drums I have ever seen. Comprised of 100% Hokkaido birch shells, ancient Japanese tapestry finish, sixty degree bearing edges, high tension lugs, and vintage wood hoops, the Yamaha Limited Edition 40th Annivesary Washi Drumset is sure to please even the most die-hard drum collectors out there.
Yamaha’s Hokkaido birch, said to have a deep and rich fundamental, comes from the woods of northern Japan. The beautiful birch provides a low-end punch, and what Yamaha describes as a “naturally EQ’d” sound perfect for recording. The awe inspiring tapestry finish is of the Genpai war. The image is laser printed on Washi paper and carefully hand-laid on the shells, hand sprayed with a clear lacquer and hand-buffed ending in a brilliant shine. A different battle scene from the Genpai war is beautifully depicted on each individual drum. The sixty degree bearing edges are given a rounded profile allowing the head to make more surface contact with the shell. This is said to further enhance the deep, warm tones and punchy attack of the Hokkaido birch. Vintage wood hoops, made of 19 ply maple, provide a traditional look to the drums while enhancing the beauty of the tapestry finish. To complete the Yamaha Limited Edition 40th Anniversary Washi Drumset, Yamaha utilizes their classic high-tension lugs from the respected Recording Custom Series line of drumsets.
I have no idea how much these bad boys cost, and I’m not sure I want to know. Though these drums are built to rock, I would have a hard time playing them. The Yamaha Limited Edition 40th Anniversary Washi Drumset is most deserving a jewel encrusted showcase window as far as I’m concerned. Beautiful drums, just beautiful.
High-end drum makers Gretsch Drums have announced new for 2007 the G-4000 Metal Series snare drums. Building on the former 4160 Metal Series snares, the G-4000 snares offer a larger size spectrum, and a spun brass shell. Other features include Ligtning throw-off, top and bottom die-cast hoops, center knurl pattern ‘Snap-In’ key holder, classic Gretsch ‘Drop G’ octagon badge, Permaone coated top/clear bottom heads and 42-Strand snare wire (24 wires on 13″ drums).
The Gretsch G-4000 Metal Series snare drums come in many shell options including Chrome over Brass, Solid Aluminum, Solid Steel, Hammered Chrome over Brass, Hammered Copper and Spun Brass. A 6DBL, 8DBL or 10DBL lug configuration and finishes like Polished Chrome, Antique Copper, Black Chrome, and Polished Brass insure that the Gretsch G-4000 Metal Series snare drums are top notch in the world of snare drums. No word on price, but these don’t strike me as being very budget conscious snare drums.
Our good friends and top of the line custom drum manufacturers Drum Workshop have started kicking out some badass paint jobs on their pro kits. The DW Collector’s Series Graphics Drums come in an array of colors and themes including Blackjack, Skulls with Sawblade Tribal Band, Joker, Rally Stripe (pictured), Billiards, Flames, Hot Rod Flames, Tribal Band, Tribal Flames over Kurillian Birch Exotic, and Solar Flare.
Collector's Series® Graphics finishes are hand air-brushed by DW's lacquer artisans utilizing the same durable high-gloss lacquer paint and finishing techniques that have made Collector's Series® Lacquer finishes the most sought after in the world.
No clue at all on how much these beauties cost, but I am guessing, like everything else from DW, the Collector’s Series Graphics Drums will probably make a nice dent in your bank account.

Sabian’s latest edition to their award winning line of HHX cymbals is the HHX X-Celerator Hats. The Sabian Vault Team designed hats provide the same hot and dark simmering tones as the rest of the HHX Series, but add increased speed and crisp clarity through the use of a heavy bottom and it’s countoured “Air Wave” design. These newly designed countours expel air when the cymbals come together which eliminates any sound-muting airlock, creating a combo of tone and projection.
Like all SABIAN HHX cymbals, HHX X-Celerator Hats are hand crafted from SABIAN’s secret process B20 bronze, a combination of 80% copper with silver and 20% tin. The cymbals are ‘Sonically Matched’ as pairs, and they are quality-protected by the SABIAN Two-Year Warranty.
These Sabian HHX X-Celerator Hats are available in 13″, 14″ and 15″ flavors. The 14″ hats go for around $400 from online retailers such as zZounds.com.
