Debut for Touch Guitars – U8, the 8-string electric guitar

8-string

Touch Guitars will debut with their first model in Autumn 2009. The product is from the U8 series and it is high-end eight-string guitar developed by the German instrumentalist Markus Reuter — the half of the experimental rock duo Tuner (together with King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto).

The U8 will probably set new standards by elegantly combine traditional guitar-building methods with proven performance practice with its carefully contoured and balanced body falling into the perfect playing position by design.

The creator of this interesting guitar explains: “It was important for me that the U8 offers ideal features to both pros and beginners, and that its design is based on traditional values.”

U8 features include a 34-inch scale length mahogany body and optimised-shaped neck with precision five-bolt joint; ebony headstock veneer with mother of pearl inlay; ebony fretboard; through-body strings; Sperzel locking tuners; custom aluminium bridge and brass saddles; tilted custom Bartolini pickups designed for perfect default bass/treble balance; recessed controls, including pickup blend, three-band EQ with mid-band selector, and volume; tilted strap buttons (to keep the guitar belt straight on the body); and a specially designed upper horn to avoid bending the right wrist (or for resting the wrist upon during certain playing techniques).

Available colour options are Gibson Red, Sunburst (Dark Orange and Black), Sonic Blue, Sea Foam Green, and Fiesta Red – the latter three all being solid colours.

Touch Guitars plan to offer a number of quality custom accessories, including gig bags.

Another unique, 10-string U10 model is expected from the same producer in 2010.

XXXV-9: The first 9-string guitar from Taylor Guitars

mainImage9StringTaylor Guitars – the company that is now 35-years-old, is presenting one of its latest products, dedicated to the celebration of its anniversary –  the XXXV-9: a 9-string guitar that is supposed to blend the best of a 6-string and a 12-string into a richly toned hybrid model.

The new Graveyard Disciple guitar: A Zakk Wylde Original!

Graveyard Disciple guitar

“There’s no question that Zakk Wylde is a one-of-a-kind performer and guitarist. As the lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and founding leader of Black Label Society, Zakk has torched many a stage with his unique style and performance.

Winner of multiple “Most Valuable Guitarist” awards in the metal genre, Zakk combines pure speed shredding with the use of pinch harmonics and chickin’ pickin’ to create a wall of sound that’s second to none. And like Zakk, his new limited edition Epiphone “Graveyard Disciple” will also light up a stage.”

This is a nice way to introduce a new guitar with crazy looking design, isn’t it? And while we talk about design, this time Zakk, in cooperation with Epiphone, made the new Graveyard Disciple to combine killer sound with equally killer looks. Shaped like a coffin, the edges of the body of this guitar are tapered and “pin-striped” in silver giving it a striking visual appearance and depth while providing for a comfortable feel. Pick one up on stage and you will raise the dead!

While looks are important, the new Graveyard Disciple doesn’t compromise in the performance department either. As with most all Zakk’s guitars, the neck is made of Hard Maple for bright attack and glued into a solid Mahogany body adding a touch of warm and of course, sustain. The neck features a “D” profile, SlimTaper neck with a smooth, satin finish for fast and effortless lead work. Top it off with a bound, Ebony fingerboard and medium-jumbo frets with easy access to all 22 frets and you’ve got a real performance guitar that’s dying to be played.

Perfectly paired for hard rock and metal, the Graveyard Disciple combines an original Floyd Rose(tm) tremolo with EMG HZ pickups. The tremolo cavity allows for serious dive bombing as well as pull-ups. The EMG HZ-4A is positioned in the bridge position for optimized lead performance while the EMG HZ-4 is voiced for and positioned in the neck position. Designed to emulate the sound of their active counterparts (the EMG 81 and 85), these HZ’s are probably the quietest passive pickups available. And unlike actives, you never have to worry about these babies showing up dead.

Other features on the new Graveyard Disciple include a multi-bound headstock with mother-of-pearl “cross” inlay, black hardware with premium 16:1 ratio Grover(tm) machine heads, Mother-of-Pearl topped metal knobs, Epiphone’s non-rotating output jack and Zakk’s signature silhouette on the back of the headstock. For added comfort and convenience while playing in the seated position, the guitar features the brilliantly designed and patented Steinberger LegRest. Fold it down and rest it on your leg. Fold it up and it practically disappears.

As with every Epiphone, it features their Limited Lifetime warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service.

sonnetguitar

Handmade instruments are integral to the Magneto brand, and now they are bringing their old world design and styling to two new guitar models straight from Matsumoto, Japan.

Born from the minds of Kei Yatsuzuka and Christian Hatstatt, the Sonnet and T-Wave are Magneto brand guitars featuring a light body shape, Canadian maple, American alder and East Indian rosewood. While the woods, output jacks, CRL Switch and CTS Pots of the Sonnet and T-Wave electric guitars are imported, all the other guitar parts and sections are made and assembled in Japan. The Magneto guitars also feature bone nut materials and custom wound pickups. Pickups are constructed using AWG 42 wire and Alnico 2, 3, and 5 rods.

Both guitars are available this fall.

AXL Guitars Debuts Two New Badwater Hues

badwaterguitarAXL Guitars today has introduced two new color members of the AXL Guitars family.

The Badwater electric guitar series from AXL is getting a couple of fresh hues thanks to Dark Red and Dark Grey variants of the Badwater electric guitar (AS-820-DRD/DGY). Badwaters come standard with a double-cutaway Alder body. A vintage look is applied to the body thanks to a hand-distressed process, and a rosewood fretboard adds some distinction. Further, each Badwater sports EMG-designed pickups that consist of a humbucker and two single coils. The AXL badge can of course be found directly laid into the wood. The guitars smack of a classic look and feel.

Each of the new Badwater guitars can be secured in the new colors for a list price of $239.99. AXL believes this represents quite the bang for your buck given the price of other vintage guitar instruments, but you may want to try one today before taking their word – after all, they are available now. Loar Reveals Black Gloss LH-600 Acoustic

blackguitarLoar’s LH-600 archtop guitar is a design the company takes pride in, with a classic look derived from early 1900s American guitars. The archtop is a hard-carved affair featuring graduated wood, and now Loar is announcing that the LH-600 is coming with a fresh coat of paint.

The LH-600 from Loar now features a black gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish and a design heralding straight out of the Roaring 20s. The sides and back of the LH-600 are made from solid maple, and the top is made from graduated spruce. The black lacquer finish enables the acoustic guitar a heightened level of acoustic projection. Also featured on the guitar is an adjustable ebony bridge and ebony fretboard, and a one-piece mahogany neck.

Loar’s LH-600 also comes in the vintage sunburst design. Both carry a list price of $1,199.99 and come with a featherweight case. Needless to say, these designs are not for the novice guitarist!
