Bass and guitar CruzTOOLS GrooveTech tool kits from The Music Link

large-CRU-GTGTR1The Music Link is presenting its latest products – the CruzTOOLS GrooveTech tool kits for both guitar and bass setups.

The guitar and bass GrooveTech kits are designed to help musicians become more comfortable at doing their own basic setups. For the price of a typical professional setup, players can purchase a GrooveTech tool kit and keep their guitar or bass in top playing shape.

Included is a 6-in-1 screwdriver, five metric and six fractional hex (“Allen”) keys, 15-blade thickness gauge, six-inch steel ruler, diagonal cutters, capo, 3-LED flashlight, and string winder (string winder in the guitar kit only). The screwdriver includes two Phillips tips (#1 and #2), two slotted tips (1/4″ and 3mm tip for vintage-style bridge saddles), and two nut drivers (1/4″ and 3/16″ to handle Gibson and other brand truss rods nuts). Hex keys are long pattern, color coded gold for metric and black for fractional, with all truss rod sizes having a ball-end on the long side for easy access.

A key component of the kit is its Easy Setup Guide, which is designed to educate the average guitar player about basic setup and maintenance, with a tutorial on neck and bridge adjustment, pickup height, and intonation.

Tools are stored in a tough 600-denier PVC-backed polyester pouch with woven elastic and a clear vinyl front. A compartment is provided for the Easy Setup Guide, guitar owner’s manual, and spare strings. A pick storage pocket is also provided.

The GrooveTech Guitar Player Tech Kit is available for $61.95, and the Bass Player Tech Kit for about $59.95.

Audio-Technica AT4080 and AT4081 Bidirectional Active Ribbon Microphones

photoat4080_at4081loresaug09Audio-Technica unveiled its first-ever ribbon microphones the AT4080 and AT4081 Bidirectional Active Ribbon Microphones.

Audio-Technica's R&D team in Japan engineered and manufactured these products from the ground up, utilizing a hand-built, proprietary design and rugged, durable construction. Both offer smooth, warm and natural sound with precise, articulate detail to meet the critical requirements of today's recording, broadcast and sound reinforcement professionals.

The AT4080, whose footprint is that of a classic suspension cradled side-address condenser, is recommended for vocals, horns, strings, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestras, ensembles and guitar cabinets. The AT4081, with an appearance more like that of a pencil condenser, is optimized for strings, saxophones and other horns, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, orchestras, ensembles and guitar cabinets; its low-profile stick design maximizes placement options. Both mics excel in recording studios as well as in live-sound settings.

The AT4080 and AT4081 are side-address active ribbon microphones with bidirectional polar patterns. Delivering the versatile performance and warm, natural sound of classic ribbon microphones, the AT4080 and AT4081 each feature a robust build for long-lasting performance and offer active electronics for easy use with microphone preamplifiers. Extremely powerful N50 rare-earth neodymium magnets provide high output levels, and the mics' innovative dual ribbon construction offers increased sensitivity and SPL handling capability. The bidirectional polar pattern of the mics makes them equally sensitive to sounds originating in front and back of the mic. Both feature extended frequency response for natural audio reproduction, and the AT4080 utilizes an acoustic baffle system and an extra-large output transformer, providing extended low-frequency response and dynamic range.

While the application of phantom power was prohibited for typical ribbon microphones, the AT4080 and AT4081 in fact require 48V phantom power for operation. The phantom power, however, is used not for the microphones' dynamic ribbon transducers, but for their active electronics, which bring their output to near condenser microphone level.

The AT4080's included AT8449/SV shock mount and the AT4081's included isolation clamp provide superior isolation and permit mounting on any microphone stand with 5/8″-27 threads. The AT4080 comes with a dust cover and a protective carrying case, while a windscreen is included with the AT4081.

The AT4080 and AT4081 Bidirectional Active Ribbon Microphones will be available in November 2009 with respective U.S. MSRP's of $1,245.00 and $895.00.

Precision Sound released the Yamaha Electone D-85 for for HALion and NI Kontakt

medium-PSD85The Yamaha Electone D-85 is the source of sounds in the fourth volume of the Vintage Keyboard Collection of Precision Sound.

The D-85 is completely analog and uses a technique called PASS (Pulse Analog Synthesis System) developed for the legendary Electone GX-1. The sound of the D-85 is rich warm big and very much analog synth and not typical organ. The Gothic choir sound of the D-85 is absolutely superb and Kraftwerk type of sounding. The strings and pads are rich and warm.

From Precision Sound have also programmed additional sound variations for EXS24, HALion and Kontakt by layering filtering etc. based on the core sounds of the instrument. The built in drum machine has a clearer more thin sound than for example the Ace Tone/Roland and the programming is a bit more progressive, explain the producer.

All grooves have been sampled in low tempo and different mixes and both with the fills they now come in A, B and Mixed versions.

The D-85 SampleSet contains:

– 511 24bit mono WAV samples of the instruments and 208 24bit mono WAV grooves

– 208 Rx2 files for use in any Rx2 compatible software like Stylus RMX, Reason, Cubase etc.

– 52 programs for Logic EXS24

– 67 programs for HALion 1.1 and all versions above

Effectrode Delta-Trem Stereo Optical Tremolo

effectrodedeltatremEffectrode's new product is now available and its name is Delta-Trem Stereo Optical Tremolo.

This pedal authentically recreates the alluring, hypnotic tone and feel of a vintage amp tremolo. This is accomplished by using a filament lamp and photocell assembly in conjunction with a vacuum tube signal path. This gives an exceptionally warm and musical tremolo effect that blends well with clean and overdriven guitar sounds. The dual signal path allows the pedal to operate in mono tremolo mode into a single amp or stereo where the sound is ping-ponged between two amps for a huge, spacious tone.

Delta-Trem Stereo Optical Tremolo features:

100% Tube Signal path: Vacuum tubes and photo-resistors are utilised to create the tremolo effect. Custom photo-cells ensure absolute minimum harmonic distortion for an exceptionally pure tremolo tone.

Powerful Mixed-Wave Modulator: Advanced L.F.O. technology allows continuous control of 32 waveforms! Standard mode reproduces smoothed triangle (linear) to sine and psuedo-square with all the wave variations between to recreate a range of authentic tube amp tremolo tones. The pedal can be further configured to produce variations of rising and falling sawtooth waves, for “Leslie style” acceleration effects. The Delta-Trem is unique that all waveforms have rounded edges for a sweet and musical tremolo – very usable and quiet operation.

Twin L.F.O. Operation: In standard mode the signal is ping-ponged between left and right outputs. The Delta-Trem can also be configured so that the “Depth” knob operates as an independent L.F.O. control. This creates some unique amplitude modulation effects as the channels drift in and out of phase.

Amber/orange LEDs pulsate with modulation speed for visual song tempo matching. The orange LED indicates the modulation rate for the second L.F.O.

The Trailblazer is truly the traveler’s dream with its small-scale design and great look! It features a spruce top and mahogany back, sides, and neck. The Trailblazer also boasts other features you wouldn’t expect to find on a travel guitar, like neck and body binding and full size nickel/silver frets. Built with great materials at a low cost, the Trailblazer always delivers when on the go. Whether you’re camping, hiking, or just taking a quick road trip, the new Johnson Trailblazer is the perfect companion.

With the classic, natural sound you can only get from solid spruce in a portable package, this guitar is ready to go wherever the muse takes you. With a full-size 24-3/4″ scale length, the Trailblazer Deluxe gives players the same comfort and playability as a full-size dreadnought, but in a travel-friendly package.

A new era for keyboards: Mellotron M4000 from Streetly Electronics

MellotronM4000_3_lStreetly Electronics has announced the release of their new M4000 cycling tape replay keyboard instrument. It surely improves on the classic Mellotron M400 design of the 1970s to offer as standard a total of 24 individual tape sound sets, plus an additional 16 two-sound combinations, with programmable attack, a much lighter keyboard feel, improved playing height, and an air filtration system and positively-pressurized cabinet.

This product is the first cycling tape replay keyboard instrument to be manufactured anywhere for nearly 40 years. Unlike the nearly four-decades-old M400 and present day reproductions, which offer only three sets of sounds, the M4000 incorporates an improved tape cycling mechanism based on the original Mellotron Mk. I, Mk. II and M300 design. Eight stations that each includes three sets of prerecorded sounds (designated A, B, and C) may be individually selected.

The height of the keyboard relative to the older M400 has been raised by five inches to provide a comfortable standing playing position. The single manual keyboard most closely replicates the action of the Mk. II, considered to be the best of all Mellotron models. The M4000 keyboard's light and very playable feel is a revelation. The signal-to-noise ratio of the M4000 is optimized by the use of the replay amplifier and other electronics from Streetly Electronics' later model M400 and Novatron instruments. The instrument output automatically mutes when the tapes are cycling between stations.

M4000 is available now for about $8000 and with a roadcase for about $750.
