A Fire Engine Red finish on this ’70s inspired guitar and powder-coated pickup covers give the Eye Guitar its unique allure, but beneath the enhanced aesthetics lies a serious musical instrument. The mahogany neck is designed to promote maximum sustain and resonance, and the two pickups – 498T at the bridge and 490R at the neck – provide high and hard performance married with a touch of something softer and more refined, a blend Gibson is hoping will grab the attention of guitar enthusiasts. The 490R bridge utilizes Alnico II magnets, while the 498T features a modified coil winding and Alnico V magnet design to provide some extra hard punch.
The Gibson Eye Guitar also features a three-way pickup selector switch, Tune-omatic bridge with stop bar tailpiece, as well as chrome-plated Grover kidney button tuners. The design is constituted by a scale length of 24 ¾” and 24 frets, and a fingerboard radius of 12″.
A limited-run model just for 2009, Gibson’s Eye Guitar is available now, but only 350 will be produced with orders having begun at the beginning of April – so you’ll have to act fast to get your hands on this one! For more information, visit here.
