Here we have a serious competitor to the Zoom handheld recorders, the Marantz Professional PMD620 Handheld Recorder that has been introduced some days ago. This compact portable solid state recorder has all the features that were introduced in the PMD660 model along with some new features all in the smallest Marantz recorder.
The Marantz Professional PMD620 Handheld Recorder features directo recording to MP3 or WAV (CD-quality, 16/24-bit and 44.1/48 kHz), 2 built-in condenser mics, thumb-operated scroll wheel (with transport controls), backlit record button, recording level control, key lock switch, OLED display, skip back function (that allows to listen again to the first 60 seconds of recorded audio), SD flash cards support (up to 2 Terabytes), line and external mic inputs, external mic output and USB port (to load sound files to or from the recorder).
The recorder also has 2 built-in speakers, but we don’t know their power, and really looks very good. The Marantz Professional PMD620 Handheld Recorder will be available in November and its approximate price will be $400.
