sE Electronics GM10 mic

sE Electronics GM10 micWhen doing an acoustic show or recording acoustic tracks, if you don’t want to use pickups, you must stay with your guitar/bass in front of the mic so it can reproduce the sound. sE Electronics has released a mic that wants to solve that question, and it also eliminates the problem of tone quality changes when players move the guitar position, the sE GM10.

The sE Electronics GM10 is a acoustic mic that clamps to the body of the guitar to assure it’s always in the same position. The mic preamp is separated from the capsule, that way you can position the capsule wherever you want, and the shock mount eliminates any mechanical sound produced by the guitar. The mic features a small gold sputtered mylar type capsule that produces a condenser mic sound and its size doesn’t annoy while playing.

This mic can save a lot of time to players and/or sound engineers in positioning the guitar for recording. The sE Electronics GM10 mic will be available in June and its price will be €407.

Clamps to the body of an acoustic guitar? Thereby deadening the natural acoustic resonation and therefore the tone of the guitar that specifically comes from top and back of the acoustic guitar.

Guitar manufacturers go to extreme lengths to research the optimum manner of internal bracing on a guitar so that they enhance the acoustical resonances of the top and back. they also do lots of research into just exactly what kind of woods will provide a specific tone.

The mic possibly might sound passable or even good, but this method of clamping onto the guitar is ludicrous. It looks pretty obvious that some Chinese engineer dreamed this up, and SE Electronics decided to slap their name on it and import it to see if they could sell some.

Has anybody really been asking for this type of solution to miking an acoustic guitar?

Oh, and how much more does it make your acoustic guitar weig? How does it affect the balance and center of gravity of the guitar while you are trying to play it and manuever around?

I haven’t thought of that mic in that kind of terms, but probably the clamped system would affect the tone of the guitar.

In weight terms, I don’t think it weights a lot, it looks very light but I haven’t found any information about it.

    Thanks for your comment
