This is the second post of Winter NAMM amp announcements, this time we’ll cover Ampeg BA300 and BA600, AXL Akita, Fargen JW-40 and Kustom Defender.
The Ampeg BA300 and BA600 are bass amps with 300W and 600W that are part of the BassAmp Combo Series. Ampeg BA300 features a 12AX7 tube in the preamp, 3–band EQ, variable compressor, pre and post XLR tube DI, … for $899.99. The Ampeg BA600 features 12AX7 multi-tube in the preamp, 3–band EQ, channel switching, pre and post XLR tube DI, … for $1,299.99. Both models are available in one-15” speaker and two-10” speaker versions (2–speakers version means additional $100 for BA300 and $200 for BA600).
AXL Akita Series amps are all-tube amps with a vintage design that feature preamp and power amp tubes (AT40 model features four 12AX7 preamp and four EL84 power amp tubes), Alphatonics speakers (up to two 12” speakers), 2 channels (clean and overdrive), Accutronics reverb, copper-plated control knobs, … Models available are 20W, 30W and 40W combo models and 50W head with 200W cabinet.
Fargen has released a Jim Weider signature amp (Jim Weider has played with people like Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, The Band, Los Lobos, …) called Fargen JW-40 Jim Weider Signature. Kustom introduced at NAMM a “intelligent” amp, the Kustom Defender, that features the Duo-Mod technology that adjusts amp gain and optimizes EQ with the volume and master volume levels, so the result is an always optimized rock sound. Besides this the Defender features a power amp boost (up to 10 dB), two EL34 output tubes, three 12AX7 preamp tubes, 12” speaker, spring reverb and a bright switch that can convert the sound of the amp from an American-style bass response to a British flavored low-end.
