Another possibility of creating a portable recording studio, IK Multimedia released the StealthPlug Virtual Guitar Amp where you can connect your guitar to a computer via a USB port. The cable features a on-board sound card that can be combined with AmpliTube, also of IK Multimedia, to get a fully functional portable amps and effects.
The StealthPlug features simply mini-jack stereo output, volume controls and a 16 bit A/D converter, the USB port, where the device gets its power, is ultra-low latency.
The StealthPlug combined with AmpliTube can work as stand-alone program or as a plugin for Mac or PC programs, it works with ASIO and Core Audio drivers. Its price is $129.
