Today Akai made the official introduction of MPC500, so we must say last photos from Music Thing were totally correct. Besides the features of the product, I’d like to talk about the product’s concept itself. Is this kind of product really necessary? Will producers, DJ’s and general musicians buy the MPC500?
Taking a first look, I’d say: yes, people will buy the MPC500, having a portable music production center allows people to create or play music anywhere. But then, after knowing its price I thought that people can be afraid of carrying a $1,300 device around, so maybe they leave it at home or studio. But if it acts as a fixed music production center, there can be more affordable and maybe higher quality options (I must check the device to say anything about the quality, but it’s a possibility).
At last, maybe people is not afraid of carrying the MPC500 around, I’d be, and they love the MPC500 and they use it as a really portable music production center, but we will see.
