Jamming with your favorite band is a common dream of guitar, bass or drum players, and recording, for example, the guitar part and adding MIDI tracks is not as realistic as we want. Bluebox releases different toys to play along music with iPod, the miJam.
These products look like, at least the guitar model, those kid’s guitars available on Toys ‘R Us. There are 3 models: guitar, mixer and drummer. The miJam guitar model allows playing chords along the music from the iPod with 4 buttons placed on the fretboard, it has volume, pitch and drum beat tempo. It also has a style selector, near the whammy bar, which can select between heavy metal, rock, blues or bass.
The miJam Mixer has two turntables and you can scratch, “digi” (like a synth riff) and voice (like a voice sample). It allows, also, adjusting the iPod and mixer volume independently.
The miJam Drummer model consists in two drum sticks and a little unit. It has buttons to make drum sounds like cymbal, floor tom, … You can adjust the tempo of the beats with the rhythm and tempo buttons.
The price is unknown, but I don’t think these are the products that players think of to play along their favorite band. Here are some photos:
