When you see different singers on stage you realize there are lots of ways of picking up the mic and this doesn’t affect the voice sound. But this may change with the release of Crowley & Tripp Naked Eye ribbon microphone.
This mic behaves different depending on the side you are using it. Front side (taking front as front of figure eight) has a traditional warm ribbon response and a smooth dark sound, and Back side has a rising response and a bright, condenser-like sound.
Besides this, the mic is hand built and also features high output, low noise, with a custom wound, full size transformer for smoothest bass and cleanest signal.
I don’t know if dual behaviour feature is useful and works perfectly, but the concept looks like a good idea. Naked Eye mic’s price is $745.
